A: Did you tidy up your room?

      (방 치웠어?)

B: Not yet. I need to finish this game first.

      (아직요. 이 게임부터 끝내야 돼요.)

A: Turn it off. Grandma’s coming in 30 minutes.

      (게임 꺼. 30분 있다가 할머니 오셔.)

B: My room is not that messy, Mom…

      (제 방 그렇게 너저분하진 않아요, 엄마…)

 

 

 

A: Did you tidy up your room?

* room [ruːm] - 방

* tidy up - 치우다

 

▶ tidy up (명사) = (명사)를 치우다

ex) Tidy up your room.  -  너의 방을 치워

      We tidied up the house.  -  우린 집을 치웠어

 

* tidy [táidi] - 정리하다

※ tidy  ≫  tidied  ≫  tidied

 

※ clean up  ≫  tidy up

* clean up - 포괄적인 의미 (쓸고 닦고 정리하는 모든 것을 포함)

* tidy up - 정리하는 느낌이 강함

 

B: Not yet. I need to finish this game first.

* finish [fíniʃ] - 마치다, 끝내다

 

▶ need to (동사원형) = (동사원형)할 필요가 있다

 

▶  first = 먼저, ~부터

ex) Wash your hands first.  -  너 손부터 씻어 / 손 먼저 씻어

      Eat the apple first.  -  사과부터 먹어 / 사과 먼저 먹어

 

A: Turn it off. Grandma’s coming in 30 minutes.

* grandma [grǽndmὰː] - 할머니 ('grandmother [grǽndmΛðər]'의 줄임말)

* grandpa [grǽndpὰː] - 할아버지 ('grandfather [grǽndfὰːðər]'의 줄임말)

* turn [təːrn] - 돌리다, 바꾸다

 

▶ turn off (명사) = (명사)를 끄다

       = 대명사는 가운데 들어감 ( = turn it off)

ex) Turn off the engine.  -  그 엔진을 꺼

      I turned it off.  -  나는 그걸 껐어

 

▶ turn on (명사) = (명사)를 켜다

 

▶ in (시간/기간) = (시간/기간) 있다가

      = 여기서 'in'은 '채우고'의 의미

ex) in 10 minutes  -  10분 있다가 / 10분 후에 (10분 채우고)

      in 2 hours  -  2시간 있다가 / 2시간 후에 (2시간 채우고)

      in 5 years  -  5년 있다가 / 5년 후에 (5년 채우고)

 

B: My room is not that messy, Mom…

* messy [mési] - 엉망인, 지저분한, 혼란을 일으키는 (물건이 엉망인-정리가 필요한)

* dirty [də́ːrti] - 더러운, 지저분한 (먼지가 많고 지저분한)

 

▶ not that (형용사) = 그렇게 (형용사)하진 않은

ex) I am not that hungry.  -  나 그렇게 배고프진 않아

       I am not hungry.  -  나 배고프지 않아

      It's not that hot.  -  그렇게 덥진 않아

       It's not hot.  -  덥진 않아

      The car is not that expensive.  -  그 자동차 그렇게 비싸진 않아

       The car is not expensive.  -  그 자동차 비싸진 않아

     

* expensive [ikspénsiv] - 비싼, 돈이 많이 드는

※ expensive  ≫  more expensive  ≫  most expensive

 

 

* duty [djúːti] - 세금, 의무, 관세
